Dentistry studies at Riga Stradins University

We help our students to acquire these skills using a modern infrastructure and visual digital diagnostic methods and the latest generation materials and instruments that can be used in practice. The goal of the dentistry study programme implemented in the faculty is to prepare qualified dentists with sufficient knowledge and practical skills to start practising general dentistry – treat patients with oral and dental diseases, as well as the running of practical activities to educate the community in the prevention of the aforementioned diseases. The clinical base for the acquisition of speciality dentistry disciplines is the Institute of Dentistry which is an internationally recognised high-quality centre of practical dentistry in Latvia. It is located in Riga, 20 Dzirciema Street near the RSU central building. The Academic School of Dental Hygiene and Latvian Association of Dentistry Students are located in the Faculty.
The professional training of students takes place in five structural units of the Faculty of Dentistry:
Department of Maxillofacial Surgery;
Department of Orthodontics;
Department of Oral Medicine;
Department of Conservative Dentistry and Oral Health;
Department of Prosthetic Dentistry.
Several members of the teaching staff of the faculty are the members of the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Academy honorary dental organisation.
Study environment
Dental students can be proud of one of the most sophisticated study bases in Northern Europe. The dentistry study programme emphasises the importance of first undergoing practice on simulation models prior to working in a clinic in real life conditions. The study process is devoted to the acquisition of profound practical and theoretical knowledge, presentations at workshops, building of dentist-patient and staff relationships and the quality of clinical case presentations. We pay special attention to the practical training of prospective dentists and offer comprehensive and varied support for the acquisition of practical skills and competences – consultations, classes, individual work with 3D simulation devices and mannequins.
Study methods
The study programme is based on a student-centred approach towards learning where particular attention is devoted to the acquisition of research-based and substantiated knowledge and treatment methods (evidence-based dentistry, medicine) and close cooperation of students with leading dentistry specialists and lecturers. The five-year long study programme comprises multiple study modes - lectures, workshops, laboratory work, practical classes, clinical practice, anamnesis, presentations of clinical cases, preparation and presentation of research projects. Students have access to PCs, simulation devices and mannequins, multimedia and interactive boards.
